Washington, D.C., bureau closed

By Gazette News Services

The Washington, D.C., news bureau that covered the Montana and Wyoming congressional delegations and Western issues for several Lee Enterprises newspapers closed Friday.

Funding for the one-reporter bureau was shared by The Billings Gazette, Missoulian, Montana Standard, Helena Independent Record, Ravalli Republic and Casper (Wyo.) Star-Tribune.

“To adjust to rising expenses our newspapers are facing, we’ve decided to move coverage of the congressional delegation back to our newsrooms and our three-reporter state bureau in Helena,” said Gazette Editor Steve Prosinski. The D.C. bureau was opened in December 2002.
