At the end of the first month, more than 813 newspaper layoffs and buyouts have been announced in 17 states for 2010.
Two newspapers have announced plans to lay off more than 100 employees: The Journal News and Kalamazoo Gazette.
- Numbers have not been released for the following newspapers:
- The Dallas Morning News
- The Leaf-Chronicle
- Greater Media Newspapers
- Placer Sentinel
- The Telegraph
Six newspapers have closed; none was a daily paper.

In a few years there will be very few papers. Web based papers need very few workers. It is sad to see.
