An estimate of layoffs resulting from merging Honolulu’s leading papers, Gannett’s Honolulu Advertiser and Oahu Publications’ Honolulu Star-Bulletin, forced layoff numbers to increase drastically in March. More than 600 employees will be laid off if the papers merge. The layoff total stands at 1,726, 695 more layoffs than were recorded at the end of February.
In the past month, layoffs were announced but numbers were not released at six papers:
- Greenville Press
- Huerfano World Journal
- The Daily Press
- East Valley Tribune
- California Real Estate Journal
- Pinellas News
