The Consumer Solutions Center in Tulsa has closed. According to a company memo, call center operations were “in-sourced” to Phoenix and Detroit: Three call centers have been consolidated to two. “Approximately 150 positions, 122 of which are part-time positions, will be eliminated in Tulsa,” a company memo states. “At the same time, we will be adding 131 positions, 53 in Greenville, 43 in Phoenix and 35 in Detroit.” In 2008, the facility had 500 employees.

Citing poor advertising revenue, Publisher Gary Wortel said 45 employees were laid off and “several” open positions were eliminated. “Though we remain optimistic for the long-run, reductions in current expenses are necessary to combat the ongoing weakness of the economy,” Wortel said.
