Design and copy editing are being outsourced to The Charlotte Observer in Charlotte, N.C. A story on the News & Observer’s website says “all 25 N&O positions are being moved,” and current designers and copy editors will “have the opportunity to relocate.”

“Given the new economic realities of our industry, we must find more efficient ways to deliver the very best products to our readers and advertisers, and we are confident the new center will be an important part of our future,” publisher Orage Quarles III was quoted in the story.

The Tamarac call center was closed; work was outsourced to Orlando. “In February 2011, we will further consolidate the Florida Teleservices operation by expanding the Orlando Sentinel call center,” a memo to employees read. “As part of this venture, we had to make the difficult decision to shut down South Florida’s Tamarac call center, which will officially close on February 12, 2011. Every effort is being made to help the affected employees with this transition, and appropriate measures are being taken to ensure a smooth transition for our telemarketing efforts.”
