Update: The Maui News Guild voted May 4 to approve an agreement with newspaper management. That agreement also rescinded the previously issued layoff notice and deferred a 2 percent wage restoration and a 1 percent retirement contribution until July 1, 2012. Three employees had volunteered for a buyout offer; it is not clear if those buyout agreements were honored or rescinded. Under the agreement, the company cannot issue layoff notices until April 1, 2012. Can you clarify the buyout situation? Leave a comment or send me an email: newspaperlayoffs@gmail.com.
