Port Huron, Mich.
Owner: Gannett Co. Inc.
Effective: Sept. 6, 2011

Printing and mailroom operations will be outsourced to Lansing, Mich. Twenty-six full-time and 27 part-time employees wil be laid off. “This was a very, very difficult decision, and I am deeply saddened to lose these dedicated employees,” said Lorinda Driscoll, the paper’s general manager and director of advertising, in a story on the Times Herald website. “”What is happening today in Port Huron is happening throughout the industry. The loss of the press and local jobs is significant … but coupled with tough economic times, it is nearly impossible to hold on to all the physical elements that make up the Times Herald.” Lansing is about 120 miles from Port Huron.
